Trash Management, Inc., “a leading provider of integrated environmental solutions”, and Trash Industries, “seeking to provide environmentally sound solutions” to waste products, have been in discussions with the Department of Commerce in North Carolina about a location for a toxic waste incinerator and neutralizing plant.
Trash Management, Inc. is an international company with 12.52 billion dollars in revenue in 2011. They have 20 million customers and they returned to investors in 2011 in dividends and stock repurchasing more than 1.1 billion dollars. While not as large or as financially as strong Trash Industries, they are primarily located in our southern region and are more focused on knowing the terrain and the climate of this region.
These companies have been talking with the State Department of Commerce about a possible location for a toxic waste incinerator and neutralization plant. The plant would receive toxic waste materials from industries. Those that could be destroyed by burning would be consumed by fire. Others would be subjected to whatever process would neutralize and make them harmless. There would be two parts to the plant: the incinerator building and the laboratories which would treat the waste that could not be destroyed by fire.
The location they are seeking has to be located near major highways so that the trucks bringing the toxic waste will have easy access to the plant. There needs to be a large parcel of land so that there may be storage space and are looking for an area where there is plenty of water for their processes. Authorities would like to find this location near the Research Triangle so that the toxic materials produced in the Research Triangle might be brought cheaply and quickly to the plant. It would be a great help if the location had a high unemployment rate so that there would be abundant workers.
The State Department of Commerce has been talking with these companies, who are in competition for the site, as only one incinerator will be licensed. The State officials have been suggesting to these companies that they take a long hard look at our county as it seems to have all the necessary conditions met.
