According to an analysis released by the U.S.-China Business Council entitled U.S. Exports to China by State 2000-11, China is the number three U.S. export market, with only Canada and Mexico ranking higher. The analysis emphasizes exports as a vital component to continued economic recovery in the U.S. Since 2000, exports from the U.S. to China rose 542 percent.
North Carolina has done exceedingly well in cultivating its exports market in China. The state ranked number 13 on the list of top U.S. state exporters to China in 2011. In addition, the report revealed North Carolina’s exports to China grew 651 percent from 2000-2011, as compared to exports from the state to the rest of the world, which grew 38 percent during the same time period. China has become North Carolina’s second largest export market.

North Carolina’s success in the global market is a result of support programs that assist existing and new businesses enter and expand in foreign markets. One such program is next week’s Passport to Export Road Show 2012, presented by The North Carolina Department of Commerce’s International Trade Division. The event will be held across the state April 16–20 in the following cities: Leland, Cary, Charlotte, Candler and High Point.
During The Passport to Export Road Show, the state’s Foreign Trade Representatives and State Business Development Managers will be conducting consultations with export-ready companies, sharing country-specific information on foreign markets and providing strong networking opportunities.
