RALEIGH — A bridge on Old Franklinton Road in Granville County will be closing on Monday, May 14, as work begins on a $630,367 project to replace the structure over Ford Creek, northwest of Franklinton.
The 52-year-old bridge is considered structurally deficient and functionally obsolete. It is still safe, but has been requiring maintenance and repair and eventually needed to be replaced. It was also built to size standards that are no longer used for bridges.
Once the bridge is closed, final surveying will take place, followed by the construction work. The project is scheduled to be completed by August 31.
The project means traffic on Old Franklinton Road will be detoured about six miles around the construction zone. Drivers will be diverted onto N.C. 96, N.C. 56, which runs parallel to Old Franklinton Road, and Suitts Store Road. Detour signs will be in place.
NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
