One of the great seasonal treats is being honored beginning today in Crawfordsville, Indiana — the city’s annual Strawberry Festival. Some 20,000 people will enjoy a wide range of fun during the next three days — including arts and crafts, music, a classic car show, and antique tractor exhibits. Of course, the star of the show during all three days will be strawberries — fresh, in jams and jellies, on shortcake, and in ice cream. The U.S. grows over 1.4 million pounds of strawberries annually — a crop worth more than $2.2 billion. California and Florida are the major producers. You can find these and more facts about America from the U.S. Census Bureau online at <www.census.gov>.

“The Vance County Board of Commissioners dealt another deadly blow to the economical development in the predominantly black community by voting not to develop the science, technology, engineering and mathematics program at Eaton Johnson Middle School. How can four Caucasian county commissioners determine what is best for development in the predominantly black community when there has not been any development in any black community for years?”

Come on Mr. Bullock, for real? I don’t think you understand economics or are you one of the fortunate ones in Vance County who pay no tax? I’m not against the program but maybe a more suitable location con be found considering all of the empty buildings in this here county.
When are folks going to figure out that the old tactics of accusing people of being racist because they don’t support funding a certain program ring hollow? To say there is no investment in the “black community” is silly. And why can’t investments be made in the community in general, why does everyone have to be lumped into groups, what about the rights of the individual, which our country was founded on? Where there is a will, there is a way, and if this program is so important it can be implemented in some fashion. The bottomless well of money is gone, local governments have to make cuts because the tax revenue is not there and they can’t depend on federal loans or grants because it is all money just borrowed from China. This devisive black/white thing is old and highly destructive news, it is a new day, the entire country elected a black President, people evaluate each other on an individual basis, there is good and bad in all races and religions, can we finally all work together for the bettermeant of all school children together and stop lumping folks into stereotypes they can never crawl out from under, be those black or white stereotypes?
Dagny, because then there would be no need for these ‘groups’ who purport to advance any particular group.
Using a racially biased point of view when making a point compounds the very problem we are moving away from. There is no sense in tearing open old wounds. Mindless.
