Calling All Dreamers! What comes to mind when you think about summer? Swimming? Summer camp? Barbecues? Family reunions? Vacations? This year, why not make reading and sharing books a part of your summer fun by participating in Warren County Memorial Library’s summer reading program? Readers from preschool through adult will celebrate our theme, “Dream Big –Read!” with related stories, crafts, games and more. Registration begins June 18, 2012 at 9:00 AM and our “Kickoff Fun Fest” is from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM featuring Smokey the Bear, crafts, and feature films. WARR 1520 AM radio station will also be broadcasting live on opening day. Come by and enjoy the fun!
No matter what your reason for reading—whether it is to learn new things, escape with a great story, or simply to relax and unwind—you reap great benefits. Teachers and literacy experts agree that reading throughout the summer helps students retain skills learned during the school year. Most importantly, when parents and children enjoy summer reading together, children develop a love of books and reading that lasts a lifetime.
Simply, register and pick up your Reading Log at the Warren County Memorial Library. Read as many books as you can, record and report your readings. The Summer Reading Program ends July 27, and the last day to report readings is July 23, 2012. Participants will be registered to win great prizes.
This summer the library has planned some special features for all ages! Highlights include Weekly “Fun Friday Programs,” and a “Half Way Reading Celebration” for all participants on Friday, July 6, 2012. Teens will have an opportunity to test their skills in “Books on the Big Screen,” and Adults can try to convince others to read their favorites during “Persuasion.” There are other special performers and programs planned. Stop by the Library, located at 119 S. Front Street, Warrenton, for a program flyer and a complete list of activities! You can also visit the library online at www.wcplnc.org , “like” them on Facebook, or call (252) 257-4990.
All programs are free of charge and will be held at the library. This program is made possible by sponsorship from the State Library of North Carolina, the WCML Friends, Walmart, Food Lion, Just $ave Foods, Hardware Café, Hardee’s, Chick-fil-A, Adventure Island, and WARR 1520 AM radio station.
