Monday, July 9th at the Henderson City Council meeting there will be a public hearing for the ordinance allowing more sweepstakes businesses to open up in shopping centers in Henderson, NC.
The topic was hot discussion a few weeks ago: http://homeinhenderson.com/2012/06/22/city-considering-increasing-sweepstakes-locations/
Last session, (June 25th, 2012) council members had some questions they wanted answered before voting, and this session those questions have been answered by city attorney Mr. Zollicoffer.
Q: Can more than one internet cafe business locate in a shopping center?
A: Yes, however they would still have to comply with 670B.5 Limits on Operations. (The maximum number of any electronic gaming machines/terminals at any on establishment at which it is the primary use shall be thirty-five (35), or one machine for each 50 square feet of usable floor space, whichever is less. The maximum number of any electronic gaming machines/terminals at any one establishment at which it is the accessory use shall be five (5). No one under the age of 21 shall be permitted to receive any cash, merchandise, or other item of value (whether by redemption or otherwise distributed) as the result of the use of any games of chance (or simulated games of chance) on said electronic gaming machines.)
Q: If there is a church or school in the UBD (shopping center), can an internet cafe locate there also?
A: Yes
Q: If there is a residence located within 750 fee of the UBD, can an internet cafe locate there also?
A: Yes
The ordinance states that this change will meet a goal of the City Council to create new jobs and investment, expand the tax base and increase the per capita income.
With these questions now answered, the council will likely take a vote to the passing of this ordinance at that time. Public comments made during the public hearing section immediately before the presentation of this updated ordinance may affect the way the members vote. If you care for this issue, you must attend this council meeting and speak at the public hearing. Meaning you need to sign up to speak before the hearing before the meeting starts.
Is anyone local going to this?
If I really thought that would make any impact on that bunch I would. Past experience from going to these sham meetings–it does no good.
These clown, in my opinion, are doing their dead level best to sink Henderson.
