It’s clear that the folks who live in Wayne, Nebraska have a sense of humor, tending to the pun side of things. Their annual chicken show starts today and runs through Sunday. With all the usual trappings and family fun of such local events, plus the National Cluck-Off and a hard-boiled egg eating contest. The theme for this year’s edition of the award-winning festival is “Nightmare on Egg Street,” and souvenirs for sale are called “Clucktibles.” The residents of Wayne aren’t the only ones who like chicken. Across the nation, Americans consume an average of 56 pounds of chicken annually. Profile America is produced by the U.S. Census Bureau: Measuring America–People, Places, and Our Economy.

I spent the better part of a yesterday reading the “Report of the Special Investigative Counsel Regarding the Actions of The Pennsylvania State University Related to the Child Sexual Abuse Committed by Gerald A Sandusky.”
There is no doubt that the convicted pedophile Jerry Sandusky is a twisted expletive (a word that rhymes with truck). It was his enablers (‘Papa’ Joe Paterno, Timothy Curley, Gary Schultz, and Graham Spanier) that I found as repulsive as Sandusky’s acts. These four individually and collectively believe that protecting fame, glory, and wealth of the gridiron supersedes the needs of society as a whole.
