This week, the House voted for the full repeal of Obamacare. Unfortunately, just as he has done with dozens of other bills passed in the House, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid does not appear likely to allow a vote on Obamacare repeal in the Senate. Immediately following our vote in the House, I sent a letter to Senator Reid (also signed by over 100 fellow Members of the House) urging him to allow a vote so that all Americans will know where their elected representatives stand on the issue.
In this newsletter you will find a link to that letter and the related press release, as well as links to interviews I have done this week, including my speech to the Young America’s Foundation on Thursday. You will also find information about my common sense, no-cost amendment to the farm bill that was adopted by the House Agriculture Committee this week.

The House has Voted, Now Let the Senate Vote
This week, I sent a letter to Senator Harry Reid, calling on him to allow the Senate to vote on the Repeal of Obamacare Act, which we passed in the House on Wednesday. Members of both parties voted in support of this repeal and it is incumbent on us, as elected Representatives and Senators, to make a decision on issues that affect all Americans and future generations.
The House has sent over 30 pieces of job-creating, pro growth legislation to the Senate. If Senator Reid is confident in his party’s majority in the Senate, and proud of the historic increase in taxes brought on by Obamacare, then there is no reason to deny each Senator their right to make their position known. This law was not presented to the American people as a tax, but now that it has been ruled one by the Supreme Court, the Senate has an obligation, as elected officials, to let the hardworking American taxpayers know where their Senator stands.

Common Sense, No-Cost Solutions
This week, the House Agriculture Committee adopted the Ellmers-Pingree-Gibson “Farm to School” Amendment to the Farm Bill. This common sense no-cost amendment would give more control to the States and local communities by authorizing schools and other service institutions to use program dollars from a USDA food distribution program to make their own purchases of foods from agricultural producers in their own communities. The amendment would also create a demonstration project in at least 10 schools to test alternative farm to school procurement models, selecting a variety of urban, rural, and tribal schools across the nation of varying sizes and with varying levels of participation in school meal programs. At least one pilot will occur on a military base. The goal of these pilot programs is to determine whether or not this change would yield reduced administrative costs.

Renee Ellmers of North Carolina.
