Crooks Using Court’s Health Insurance Ruling to Steal Private Information
Scammers always keep an eye on the headlines for events they can use to trick you. This time, they’ve jumped on the recent Supreme Court ruling on the Affordable Care Act (“ObamaCare”). The scammers are pretending to be government employees. When they call, they may be armed with a bit of information like the routing number for your bank. The purpose of the call, they’ll say, is to “verify” that number or other information. Using that hook they push forward, …

North Carolina Among Strongest States in Country for Fiscal Stability
The State of North Carolina earned a triple-A credit rating from Standard & Poor’s (S&P) for 2012. And while this is good news, for North Carolina it is simply business as usual. North Carolina is one of only four states in the U.S. that has maintained a triple-A credit rating from S&P for at least 46 consecutive years. Stateline, a publication of The Pew Center of the States, recently published an overview of S&P state credit ratings from 2001 through …
Tuesday Open Lines
On this date in 1984, President Reagan signed a bill known as the Minimum Legal Drinking Age law. Backed by Mothers Against Drunk Driving, the law standardized a patchwork of local laws across the country and made it illegal for anyone under 21 to purchase or publicly possesses alcohol. It has been estimated that a thousand lives a year are saved as a result. In the U.S., Americans annually drink an average of just under 22 gallons of beer, 2½ …
Richard Brand: The Power of the Repeated Lie
It is well known that there is great power in the repeated lie. If you repeat a lie often enough, it will soon become believed as the truth. There is no better proof of this than the continued repetition of the lie that Obama’s Administration has been the “most prolific big government spender” in the history of the country. The ads continue to repeat the lie that Obama has raised the national debt higher than anybody. So it is very …

Senator Richard Burr Updates
Preventing Leaks About Covert Actions to Protect American Lives and Missions This week, I introduced a bill that I never thought would be necessary, but unfortunately, leaks of confidential information about American covert actions have become so common and pose such a threat to our national security that I was forced to introduce legislation to combat it. Such reckless disclosures of top-secret information compromise our national security, jeopardize the work of our intelligence officers and overseas partners, and risk innocent …
Congresswoman Renee Ellmers: Fighting to Repeal Obamacare
This week, the House voted for the full repeal of Obamacare. Unfortunately, just as he has done with dozens of other bills passed in the House, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid does not appear likely to allow a vote on Obamacare repeal in the Senate. Immediately following our vote in the House, I sent a letter to Senator Reid (also signed by over 100 fellow Members of the House) urging him to allow a vote so that all Americans will …
