As I’ve traveled the District the past few weeks, I’ve talked with groups, business leaders, healthcare professionals, and with constituents one-on-one. In this newsletter, you will find photos and information about the meeting of my Healthcare Advisory Council in Clayton last week and recent visits across the district.
The comments I am hearing in the District are in line with results of my August 5 Constituent Survey. In the survey results, constituents said the economy and jobs were their top concern with the national debt coming in second. They said the top priorities of the government should be “to enact policies to improve the economy and job market” and “to reduce the national debt.”
It is understandable those in the Second District are concerned about jobs considering unemployment rose in 44 states in July and the United States has still recovered less than half of the jobs lost in the recession. Passing legislation that promotes job creation has been my first priority since taking office and continues to be. Unfortunately, most of those bills are still waiting for the Senate and President to act. Visit this page on my website (or click on “Track Jobs Bills Here” in the right sidebar) to track the progress of the jobs legislation that has been passed in the House.
I am not surprised the people in the Second District continue to be concerned about runaway spending considering the latest report from the Treasury Department shows the deficit for the first ten months of fiscal year 2012 totaled $974 billion and the deficit in July 2012 was $70 billion. Treasury’s report indicates that the federal government is well on track to racking up the fourth straight $1 trillion deficit under President Obama.

Healthcare Advisory Council Meets

On August 15, I met with my Healthcare Advisory Council in Clayton. The group included more than 50 healthcare professionals from across the Second District from various fields of the healthcare industry. Those in the meeting shared their concerns regarding a variety of issues including the effects of governmental policies and regulation, and also shared some suggested solutions to problems facing healthcare professionals today.
Across the District
This month, I’ve been traveling the Second District, speaking to groups and meeting with business leaders and constituents. Below are a few photos from some of the places I’ve visited recently:
