The Civic Center on Vance-Granville Community College’s Main Campus in Vance County hosted the “Employ-A-Vet” Job Fair on Nov. 1. The sixth annual event, organized by the N.C. Division of Workforce Solutions JobLink Career Centers in Henderson and Oxford with the help of VGCC and other partners, was designed to help area residents, especially veterans of the U.S. armed services, find jobs and develop job readiness.
Around 30 businesses and organizations were on hand to provide resources, receive resumes and talk with potential future employees. VGCC staff members were also on hand to offer information on the college’s various job training programs that can help veterans obtain skills and preparation for employment. Pictured above, from left: Robert Garcia of Oxford, a U.S. Air Force veteran and commander of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 97, talks with Teresa Ellis of VGCC’s Human Resources Development department. Garcia is a graduate of VGCC’s Associate Degree Nursing program and was considering developing new skills now that he has retired from nursing.
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs provides educational assistance to numerous VGCC students, including both veterans and certain eligible dependents of veterans. VGCC is an eligible institution for VA education benefits for all chapters of the GI Bill.
