At Thursday’s board of directors meeting for Oxford Preparatory High School, the Board named Andrew Swanner as Executive Director of the school. Swanner is one of the founding educators of the school and led the writing of the extensive charter application.
Board Chair, Shawn Spence, said, “The Board voted unanimously to offer Mr. Andrew Swanner the position and is confident that he is best suited to lead the school. He has shown himself to be instrumental in the charter application process, location selection, and the implementation of our marketing effort. “
Swanner has taught Civics & Economics and AP Government during his seven year tenure at JF Webb High School. He has also served in leadership positions, including social studies department chair and member of the school improvement team, in addition to coaching the JV Boy’s Basketball team. During his career at Webb, he also led educational trips for students and parents to New York City, Washington, DC, Charleston, Hershey, Costa Rica, and Italy & Greece. He earned B.A. and M.A.T. degrees from Coastal Carolina University and is currently enrolled in the Add-On Licensure in School Administration program at Appalachian State University.
“I am excited about the opportunity to lead the first charter high school in the area. I look forward to growing as a school leader, as our student enrollment grows each year,” remarked Swanner. He says his focus now is sharing the unique school’s mission to families of current eighth grade students and building an energetic, talented team of teachers. Community meetings are planned for Oxford, Creedmoor, and Henderson at local libraries over the next few weeks.
“The OPHS Board is very pleased that Mr. Swanner has accepted the position of Executive Director,” Board member Dr. Marty Deal said. “His input thus far has been instrumental and will continue to be vital as we look forward to opening our doors in the fall.”
