WHAT TO DO IN THE GARDEN THIS WEEK (from the Home and Garden Show on WIZS)
1. Prepare your 2013 Garden Notebook so you can keep production notes through the growing season.
2. Continue to monitor for cool season weeds in your tall fescue lawn, and treat when we have a warm spell.
3. Check your houseplants: divide and repot any pot bound plants.
4. Add a fresh layer of compost to raised beds and mix in with existing soil.
5. Force a winter bouquet from cut branches of forsythia, lilac, apple or peach.
6. Make sure birdfeeders are full to help birds through winter cold spells.
7. Gather and organize seed-starting supplies (seed starting mix, planting trays, watering can, labels, light source, etc.).
8. Prepare garden areas for cool-season crops (e.g. broccoli, lettuce, etc.).
9. Clean out bluebird boxes as they will be looking for nesting sites soon.
10. Plan your deer management strategy for vegetable gardens, fruit crops, and new landscape plantings.
