The Vance-Granville Community Band will perform its annual spring concert on Saturday, April 13. The program will begin at 6 p.m. in the Civic Center on VGCC’s Main Campus in Vance County. Admission is free.
The program, called “An Evening to Remember,” will include a variety of music, from marches to the overture from the Italian opera “Semiramide” and a Duke Ellington medley. Raynah Adams of Henderson will serve as emcee for the concert and will provide narration for two pieces, “Duty, Honor, Country” and “Until Justice Rolls Down Like Waters.” The concert will also feature an appearance by the Vance-Granville Community Choir, which consists of college students, faculty and staff. The choir will join the band on the evening’s final selection, “Armed Forces – The Pride of America.”
The concert will be the band’s first to be conducted by Ivory Brock, the band’s new director and VGCC’s new music instructor. Brock joined the college in January and previously taught and directed bands at several universities, including Elizabeth City State University and St. Augustine’s University. He earned a Master’s in Music Education at the VanderCook College of Music.
Formed in 2008, the Vance-Granville Community Band is a combination of VGCC students and interested citizens. Band members hail from all four counties of the college service area (Vance, Granville, Warren and Franklin) and beyond. For more information, call Ivory Brock at (252) 738-3222.
