The N.C. Special Olympics Law-Enforcement Torch Run will be held Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at 9:00 A.M. The run will start at the Henderson Police Department located at 200 Breckenridge Street. Officers from the Henderson Police Department, Vance County Sheriff’s Office, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, and the District Attorney’s Office, will be participating in the event.
The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics is an international series of relays by law enforcement officers to raise money for Special Olympics. A Torch Run is held each year in every state throughout the United States and in 25 countries around the world. Officers carry the torch to signify the achievements and the personal courage of Special Olympic athletes.
N.C. Law Enforcement volunteers have participated in the Torch Run by collecting donations through the sale of Torch Run T-shirts. A minimum donation of $13.00 will get you a T-Shirt. A minimum donation of $20.00 will get you a black Technical Shirt.
The public can support Special Olympics by purchasing a T-shirt. T-shirts may be purchased by contacting Police Lt. Irvin Robinson (252-431-6061). Lt. Robinson is the local coordinator for the event.
The two and half mile run will begin at the Henderson Police Department and continue South on Garnett Street, South to Dabney Drive turning right onto Oxford Road and continuing to the city limits at Sunset Gardens.
Mayor James “Pete” O’Geary and County Commission Chairman Tommy Hester will open the Special Olympics ceremony with remarks. Chief Keith Sidwell & Sheriff Peter White will light the Torch.
