HENDERSON, N.C. – The Durham office of Legal Aid of North Carolina, a statewide nonprofit law firm that provides free legal help to low-income residents, will hold two free legal clinics in Henderson this summer.
The clinics are part of Legal Aid’s third annual Nellie G. Kearney Summer Family Series, named in honor of a former Legal Aid board member and Vance County native who has devoted her entire life to advocating for the needs of families in her community and throughout the state.
The clinics will be held at the H. Leslie Perry Memorial Library at 205 Breckenridge Street in Henderson. The clinics are free and open to the public. No registration is required. More information is below.
Expungements and Certificates of Relief – Wednesday, July 24, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The clinic will provide general information about barriers to employment and benefits that arise when a person has a criminal record. Legal Aid advocates will work with individuals after the presentation. The clinic is co-sponsored by the Henderson Human Relations Commission and Greater Little Zion Holy Church.
Renters’ Rights and Responsibilities – Thursday, August 15, 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
The clinic will discuss the rights and responsibilities of renters in North Carolina. Specific topics will include repairs, evictions, security deposits and late fees. Tips on what to look for when renting a house or apartment will also be provided.
