MESDA joins North Carolina Weekend for ‘Collecting Carolina’ series

Old Salem’s Museum of Early Southern Decorative Art (MESDA) in Winston-Salem will play a role in a new series of reports for the UNC-TV series North Carolina Weekend. “Collecting Carolina” will be a recurring series of reports over the next year about artifacts fashioned in the 18th and 19th centuries in North Carolina and uncovered by collectors and treasure hunters. MESDA will provide curatorial assistance on the program, which will visit the 12 river basins in the state and will highlight artifacts from those regions and what they reveal about “the history, culture and aesthetic sensibilities of those first North Carolinians,” according to a news release. The Division underwrites North Carolina Weekend, which normally offers 4-5 segments each week featuring a variety of sites and locations across the state.
