The nation’s first licensed radio station began broadcasting in Detroit on this date in 1920 — station 8MK, now operating as WWJ. The station was owned by the Detroit News, and its daily program was called “Tonight’s Dinner.” For some convoluted reasons, the station operated with an amateur license, which in 1922 was changed to commercial. The first station to receive a commercial license was KDKA in Pittsburgh, which began broadcasting in October of 1920. From these rudimentary early broadcasts, the new medium grew rapidly. In 1922, there were 30 radio stations, but by the following year, there were 556. Now, there are more than 14,000 radio stations across the U.S. Profile America is in its 17th year as a public service of the U.S. Census Bureau.

I just read the Daily Dispatch on line for Wednesday. I am appalled. Read it and weep–a murder suspect wants to continue her education at Vance Granville.
Anyone out there have an opinion on this?
Prudence, I do not read the crime related news in the paper. After reading your comment I took a look. She is only accused of murder not convicted of murder. So she is innocent of any murder until a jury of her peers declares otherwise. Somebody thinks she is not a threat to them and bailed her out of jail to await her trial. If she completes her GED before being convicted of murder then she pays for her education and not the taxpayers. The bigger concern should be her reproductive capacity. Her tubes should be tied pending juries’ verdict; the taxpayers do not need to raise any more illegitimate children. Allison Capps is a bull dog of an assistant DA. Would have been worth the time watching her argue the peoples side on this.
The paper reports that Myiesha Monique Williams, 19, of 119 Geranium Lane, is charged with being the driver in the getaway car used in a murder. There is no real estate listed on Vance Tax Department’s website for 119 Geranium. There is a car listed at that address. Google Earth shows only trees at that address no structure. I hope the paper misreported the address.
