LOUISBURG, N.C.—The Tar River Center for History and Culture (TRCHC) at Louisburg College will sponsor two public events in September 2013.
On Thursday, September 19, the Center will host a strategic planning session at 7:30 p.m. in the Louisburg Training Center of the Police/Fire Complex (located off of Wade Avenue in Louisburg). During the session, citizens from throughout Franklin County and the region will have an opportunity to express their hopes and dreams for how the Tar River Center and other organizations can work together to promote the history and culture of the Upper Tar River region.
“The Tar River Center for History and Culture is eager to work with diverse groups in the region to foster interest in the area’s rich heritage,” said Maury York, the center’s director. “We look forward to hearing how folks think we can provide historical resources for the public schools, promote heritage tourism, and bring people together around a sense of shared history.”
The TRCHC’s 2013-2014 lecture series on the Civil War in North Carolina and Franklin County gets underway on Thursday, September 26, at 7:30 p.m. Mr. William H. Brown, registrar of the State Archives of North Carolina in Raleigh, will speak on “North Carolina Militia, Home Guard, and Reserves during the American Civil War.” The presentation will take place at the historic Person Place, located at 605 North Main Street in Louisburg. The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served after the lecture.
