Vance-Granville Community College will hold a series of sessions offering information for high school students and their parents on the “Career and College Promise” (CCP) program. CCP allows eligible students to earn college credits while still in high school, without having to pay tuition or college fees.
These meetings will be held on Monday, Oct. 28 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the Small Auditorium (Building 2) on VGCC’s Main Campus near Henderson; on Tuesday, Oct. 29 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the seminar room on VGCC’s South Campus between Butner and Creedmoor; on Wednesday, Oct. 30 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the seminar room on the Warren County Campus in Warrenton; and on Monday, Nov. 4 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room on the Franklin County Campus near Louisburg. Students and parents from anywhere in the four-county service area are invited to attend the meeting of their choice, and are not limited to attending the campus in their county. However, seating is limited at each location.
Attendees will learn about the requirements of the program, creating plans of study and applying for admission. This information will help students prepare to enroll and register for classes in the upcoming Spring 2014 semester, which starts Jan. 13.
VGCC’s unique Career and College Promise pathways lead to students acquiring entry-level job skills and/or credits that transfer to four-year universities. The scheduled information sessions will focus on the two types of pathway that are open to eligible high school juniors and seniors: the “Core 44” College Transfer and the Career Technical Education Pathways. The third, the Cooperative Innovative High Schools pathway, involves attending particular schools, such as the four Early College High Schools that VGCC operates in partnership with local school systems, starting as a freshman.
Students who select the College Transfer option will take some of the so-called “Core 44” hours of general education credits that will transfer seamlessly to any public or participating private college or university. Within this pathway, VGCC will offer four programs of study: Business and Economics; Engineering and Mathematics; Humanities and Social Science; and Life and Health Sciences. Each program of study has a prescribed set of courses.
VGCC’s Career Technical Education Pathways allow students to potentially earn certificates in Business Management, Cosmetology, Early Childhood Education, Infant/Toddler Care, Manicuring/Nail Technology, Medical Office Administration/Medical Transcription Specialist, and School-Age Care, or diplomas in Carpentry and Welding Technology.
