Oxford Preparatory High School Announces Baseball Coach


Oxford Preparatory High School has named Randy Smith of Oxford as the head baseball coach. Smith has been a resident of Granville County since 1985. He has taught and coached at South Granville High School, J.F. Webb High School, and Granville Central High School. He also coached and taught at G.C. Hawley Middle School, Northern Granville Middle School, and Cedar Creek Middle School in Youngsville. His coaching experience includes baseball, softball, football, and basketball.

Throughout his career Smith has placed a strong emphasis on academic excellence in the classroom and mastery of fundamental skills on the athletic field. Smith’s baseball experience includes getting two new programs off the ground as the head coach at Cedar Creek Middle School and Granville Central during their startup years. He also took over the JV baseball coaching duties at JF Webb in 2006, following a season during which the school did not field a JV team and the varsity won only one game. Smith led the JV team to a 13-8 record including victories over perennial powers Southern Alamance and South Granville.

Smith graduated from North Carolina State University with a degree in English and a Masters Degree in Education. He is currently employed by the NC Department of Public Safety as a Literacy Coach at C.A. Dillon Youth Development Center in Butner, NC.
