Val Short, Executive Director of Triangle North Healthcare Foundation in Henderson, is the 2014 recipient of the North Carolina Business and Professional Women Federation’s Career Woman of the Year award.
Short received the award during the BPW’s Women Empowered and Enlightened Conference in Carrboro on January 25. A member of the Henderson BPW Club since 2012, Short was recognized for her contributions to the workplace and community as well as her successful career as a healthcare executive.
“I was very honored to be nominated by my fellow BPW club members for this award,” said Short. “It is so humbling to be recognized for your contributions to the working world. I am very grateful for the career opportunities I have had and for the chance to make a difference,” she added.
Established in 1919, the North Carolina Federation of Business and Professional Women promotes equity for all women in the workplace through advocacy, education, and information. The organization, made up of BPW clubs from across North Carolina, advocates for legislation that helps working women and their families.
Short became Executive Director of Triangle North Healthcare Foundation in March, 2012. Prior to joining the Foundation, Short held a regional marketing consultant position for a national skilled nursing and rehabilitation company.
She also worked nearly 25 years at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids, serving 16 years as Vice President.
A native of Swansboro, Short has a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a master’s degree in public health, both from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources. She and her husband, Tony, reside in Roanoke Rapids and Kerr Lake.
