Vance County Arts Council – Imagination Art Station Fundraiser

Imagination Art Station is a weeklong art education program for children ages six to twelve. Students progress through classes that focus on the art of African drumming, drama, dance, photograph, scrapbooking and various crafts. This year we would like to offer a storytelling block featuring Willa Brigham. Additional funds will assist in bringing in this talented artist.

We are thrilled to share with you some recent news we received from power2give.org, the on-line fundraising site for arts and cultural projects that the Arts & Science Council developed. They have secured a $3000 amount of matching gift challenge grant for “Imagination Art Station,” the match will support projects on the site.

This means that each individual gift on power2give.org will be matched $.50 for every $1 pledged. We want to make the most of this opportunity and have posted “Imagination Art Station at www.power2give.org.  This project seeks funding for the weeklong educational art summer camp. The camp will be held the week of June 23-26 at E.M. Rollins Elementary School.

If every member of our site participates in the effort, the more people will know about the impact we make on the community and the more likely the project will be 100% funded.
Through the years the Imagination Art Station summer camp has provided an artistic learning experience for the youth of Vance and surrounding counties. There are ten elementary schools in Vance County and only four of them offer music and art programs.  Because of this camp, children have been exposed to masters such as Dr. Chuck Davis and the African American Dance Ensemble and the Shabu Family. The techniques they’ve learned from these masters are invaluable.

Imagination Art Station has been in existence for many years. We are fortunate to have students whose parents attended the camp when they were young. Some of the students who attend are repeat students who have been enrolled for three or more years. Students and parents look forward to Imagination Art Station.
