Vance County Schools – Teacher of the Year for 2014-2015

Ethel J. Hunter, a veteran member of the faculty at Eaton-Johnson Middle School, has been selected as the Teacher of the Year for Vance County Schools for 2014-2015.

This is her second selection as the district’s Teacher of the Year. She was previously chosen for the honor for the 2006-2007 school year.

Hunter is entering her 14th year as a teacher with Vance County Schools. Most of her career has been as a teacher at Eaton-Johnson. She also has taught at Northern Vance High School.

She currently teaches language arts in the eighth grade.

Hunter was selected from an outstanding field of 16 educators who were each selected as their respective school’s Teacher of the Year for 2014-2015.

She was among six finalists for the prestigious award. In addition to Hunter, the finalists included: Patricia Harris of Carver Elementary School; Connie Johnson of Northern Vance High School; Deris Mora of Henderson Middle School; Wendy Short of E.O. Young Jr. Elementary School; and Jenny Waite of Zeb Vance Elementary School.

Other school Teachers of the Year were Margarite Alston of Aycock Elementary School; Shelia Brockers-White of Western Vance High School; Wilonda Gillespie of Pinkston Street Elementary School; Casey Hall of Early College High School; Kristy Harp of Dabney Elementary School; Kelvin Henderson of New Hope Elementary School; Shelia Henderson-Wormley of Clarke Elementary School; Jennifer Howard of Southern Vance High School; Pat Hughes of E.M. Rollins Elementary School; and Anaiza Maghanoy of L.B. Yancey Elementary School.

Hunter will now go on to represent the school system in district competition for N.C. Teacher of the Year.
