RALEIGH — A section of Pulleytown Road will be closing early Monday, Oct. 20, weather permitting, as part of the Rolesville U.S. 401 Bypass project. The contractor needs to close a small section of the road to build the intersection for the new highway.
The contractor has 21 days to install storm drainage and concrete islands, and make pavement and intersection improvements. Once it is re-opened, traffic will be using a small portion of the new bypass.
A signed detour will be in place, using U.S. 401, N.C. 96 and Braham Siding Road.
Motorists are advised to use caution while traveling in the area and to take the detour route into account when planning to drive along Pulleytown Road. NCDOT reminds motorists to watch for detour signs, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
The work is part of a $25 million project to build 5.8-miles of the bypass between Louisbury Road and N.C. 96. It is intended to alleviate traffic congestion for commuters between Raleigh and Franklin County in one of Wake County’s fastest growing communities.
The new roadway is south of the existing U.S. 401, and includes intersections with Jonesville Road, Rolesville Road and Pulleytown Road before being joined again by the existing highway just before reaching N.C. 96. The contractor hopes to have the work completed by the end of the year. A two-mile section of the bypass between Ligon Mill Road and Louisbury Road was completed in December 2011.
