The NC REAL Agricultural Entrepreneurship program is designed for those growing crops, trees, raising livestock, making sauces, pickles or jams with items from a garden. This seven-week interactive course is designed to strengthen the business savvy of community farmers and budding agricultural entrepreneurs to help them develop and manage a profitable, environmentally sound small farm or agricultural business. Students who participate in this program should have one goal in mind, which is to operate effectively in order to gain the highest profit margin possible.
– How do you know what prices the market can bear?
– How can you determine the best logistics to get your product to the market?
– What is your best market?
– What can you do between growing seasons to still receive income?
Each class is once every week for seven weeks (3 hours each class). You will also discover the nuts and bolts to business development and management, finance and regulatory requirements, quality and safety standards and more. You will also be introduced to resources and contacts you need to run your business more efficiently and effectively. Finally, you will become a client of the Vance-Granville Community College Small Business Center, where you will take your idea to the next level of business planning.
This is a hands-on, interactive program, beneficial to farmers or anyone who grows a marketable agricultural product, who wishes to start a business or has been in business 0-3 years. Ultimately, this course will give participants opportunities to develop skills which will increase their likelihood of success as an agricultural entrepreneur.
This program is brought to you in partnership by the following: NC Tobacco Trust Fund; NC Cooperative Extension; NC REAL; City of Oxford; SBC and Project Skill-UP.
