The nation’s telephone service options changed forever on this date 33 years ago when AT&T complied with a Justice Department mandate to give up its local Bell System companies. The action came as the result of what has been termed the most significant antitrust suit since the breakup of Standard Oil in 1911. From the late 19th century, the virtual monopoly of what had come to be known as “Ma Bell” controlled America’s telephone equipment and lines. After the breakup, competitive forces have shaped the industry. Of America’s roughly 116 million housing units occupied by owners or renters, almost 114 million, or about 98 percent, have cellular or landline telephone service. You can find more facts about America’s people, places and economy, from the American Community Survey, at <www.census.gov>.

J.C. Penney’s in Henderson is not among the stores to be closed by April. Four other stores in North Carolina are to close along with 36 others across the country. I wonder if our economic development guru will take credit for keeping the Henderson store open.
yes, guru, yes…………
I’ll raise a flag when Harris Teeter or Kroger give us a choice instead of the Food Lion and Walmart monopoly.
Mingo are you speaking for the EDC director, or as the EDC director, or just mocking our EDC director?
Prudence I understand the desire to have a higher quality farmers market (grocery) store than what is currently offered. Unless our county’s average income triples those stores are not going to locate here. You may want to explore the new Farmer’s Market Store in Durham on University Boulevard near South Square. Quality and product mix comparable to whole-pay-check (Whole Foods) and easier to reach from Henderson.
Mikey…….you want to portray yourself as somewhat intelligent human being but yet you stoop to the level of “name calling?” How dare you call a blogger on HiH the “Oxford Troll?” Who died and left you the owner of HiH? Honey, you put your pants on the same way as any other blogger on HiH and that’s one leg at a time!! Don’t forget the time you constantly blasted a current county commissioner named Eddie Wright for being historically a tax deadbeat. I was in attendance one night at a council meeting when the aforementioned commissioner called over Mr. Bobbitt(not you Mikey) and asked about “posts” that he had read on HiH. Imagine the expression and lack of answers when this “Mr. Bobbitt” said something along the lines of “I think you have me confused with someone else”!! How easy for you to blast em’ on HiH….How about you go to the County Commissioner’s meeting and calling him a tax deadbeat when you address the commissioners? It’s not quite that easy when you can’t hide behind your Ipad,Computer, or Smart Phone’s keypad is it? You my dear……question for you…..”who died and left you the boss and/or moderator” for HiH?
If that were the case then that explains the lack of “traffic” and “comments” on this site. The traffic is nothing compared to when Jason Feingold owned it…..that my dear is undisputable(even using your funny math). Enjoy the rest of your day & try not to offend anyone!!! Well….you can….if you’re in your comfy home!!!
Gosh, Decept, you’re the very definition of a troll. C’mon lady, we can see the obvious joy you get from pointing out problems in your neighbor’s yard. If you can’t help from being a jerk, at least don’t be delusional about it.
