The Water Committee will meet at 3:30pm on Monday March 30th. The principle purpose of the meeting is for three commissioners to find a solution to the crisis the commissioners collectively created when committing the good faith and credit of the whole county to build Phase 2 of the water project. When the commissioners’ approved building Phase 2 they were aware of the lack of committed customers. At last month’s committee meeting Commissioner Garrison acknowledged that the commissioners change the rules believing if they build it customers will commit. Their illusion of success is now a cash crisis for the county. How to repay the loan now that the pipe is in the ground and property owners have rejected the water. For this fiscal year the commissioners used nearly $200,000 of tax dollars to repay the loan. The commissioners’ own projection for next year’s fiscal budget indicates that $433,000 of tax dollars will be needed to repay the loan. Tax dollars from all those owning property in the county even in areas not served by the water project. The commissioners’ know that without sufficient number of property owners committed to buying water within the next two years there will be a property tax increase to repay the loan. Whatever action(s) the three commissioners decide to recommend to the Water Board (aka Board of Commissioners) will be a bitter pill.
The committee meeting is open to the public were you can been seen and not heard.
