Students in Vance County Schools are already involved in state testing that will now stretch through the end of the school year with the last day of classes set for Wednesday, June 10 2015.
The Early College High School has been administering state end-of-course and end-of-the-semester exams throughout this week. The Early College Class of 2015 graduation ceremony is Friday, May 22, and the school’s last day of classes for this year is Thursday, May 28.
State testing began in middle schools on Wednesday, May 20, and will go on each day until Tuesday, June 9. Students in the eighth grade are already taking the N.C. Science exam online. All students in grades 6-8 at Eaton-Johnson Middle, Henderson Middle and the STEM Early High School will take the state end-of-grade tests in reading and mathematics on Wednesday, June 3, and Thursday, June 4. Students who miss testing during these days will take their make-up exams on subsequent days.
The state end-of-grade test in mathematics will be administered to students in grades 3-5 in all 10 elementary schools on Wednesday, May 27, and the state end-of-grade test in reading will be administered to the same students on Thursday, May 28. Make-up exams will be administered to students on Friday, May 29, and subsequent days as needed. The N.C. Science exam will be given to fourth and fifth-grade students at each elementary school on either June 1, 2 or 3. Finally, the N.C. Read to Achieve exam will be administered to third-grade students in all elementary schools on Monday, June 8.
Testing at Northern Vance and Southern Vance high schools begins on Thursday, May 28, with the American History II N.C. Final Exam given to students online, as well as Career and Technical Education (CTE) Post Assessments and teacher exams administered to students in grades 9-12. The English II exam will be given online and students will take CTE Post Assessments, teacher exams and needed make-up exams at Northern Vance and Southern Vance on Friday, May 29. On Monday, June 1, the two high schools will administer the English III N.C. Final Exam online to affected students, as well as CTE Post Assessments, teacher exams and needed make-up exams. On Tuesday, June 2, Northern Vance and Southern Vance students will take the Civics and Economics N.C. Final Exam online, as well as CTE Post Assessments, teacher exams and needed make-up exams. The World History N.C. Final Exam will be given to students online on Wednesday, June 3. Any needed make-up exams also will be given on this day at Northern Vance and Southern Vance.
On Wednesday, June 3, state end-of-course tests and English II exams will be given to students in grades 9-12 at Western Vance High School.
Thursday, June 4, and Friday, June 5, state end-of-course tests and Math 1, Biology and needed make-up exams will be given to students in grades 9-12 at Northern Vance and Southern Vance high schools. The high school students will be dismissed on these days by 12:20 p.m. after they have completed their testing and eaten lunch. Students in selected courses that must have N.C. Final Exams will take these tests in the afternoon and be dismissed by 3 p.m. each day. State end-of-course tests and Math 1 and Biology exams will be administered to students in grades 9-12 at Western Vance High School on these days.
On Monday, June 8, and Tuesday, June 9, state end-of-course tests and Math 1, Biology and needed make-up exams will be given at Northern Vance and Southern Vance high schools. The high school students will be dismissed on these days by 12:20 p.m. after they have completed their testing and eaten lunch. Students in selected courses that must have N.C. Final Exams will take these tests in the afternoon and be dismissed by 3 p.m. each day. Make-up exams as needed will be given to students on these days at Western Vance High School.
On Wednesday, June 10, make-up exams will be given to students if needed at Northern Vance, Southern Vance and Western Vance high schools.
During the days for high school exams, all elementary and middle schools will continue to operate on a normal schedule.
