The STEM Early High School, a middle school in the Vance County Public School System, hosted a “STEM Extravaganza” event on Saturday, May 30, in the cafeteria at Northern Vance High School.
The four-hour event began in the morning and featured student projects completed during the school year, as well as separate assemblies to recognize students with awards in the sixth, seventh and eighth grades. Principal Rey Horner and Assistant Principal Iris Dethmers led teachers and other school staff members in honoring students at each grade level during the awards presentations, which were held in the Northern Vance gymnasium.

In addition to student projects, displayed on poster boards and including written journals and computer generated illustrations of students’ works, activities in the cafeteria included food items for purchase during lunch, games for children to play and ticket purchases for raffle items as part of a fundraiser through the school’s Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO).
