Amanda Bullock, a sixth grader at Henderson Middle School, and Jackson Hopper, a sixth grader at Eaton-Johnson Middle School, will participate in the prestigious Duke University Talent Identification Program (TIP).
Duke TIP is a nonprofit organization that offers enrichment activities to academically gifted and talented youths. The program works with students, their families and educators to identify, recognize, challenge, engage and help students reach their highest potential. Top academic achievers are identified for Duke TIP through their outstanding test scores. The program is open only to fourth, fifth or sixth-grade students who achieve a qualifying score at or above the 95th percentile on a recent grade-level test.
Both Bullock and Jackson will participate in the Duke TIP Talent Search and be exposed to online enrichment activities through independent and distance learning courses, as well as a week-long summer residential program offered on the Duke University campus for gifted students.
Participants receive recognition and a variety of benefits to nurture their academic talent, including a unique online curricula, educational resources, access to research-based advice and more. A major benefit is the opportunity to take EXPLORE, an above-level test designed by ACT for eighth-grade students. Taking this optional test helps younger gifted students clarify their academic abilities and qualifies them to enroll in the 7th Grade Talent Search once they complete the sixth grade.
Bullock is the daughter of Joseph and Cora Bullock of Henderson. Hopper is the son of Mark and Sharon Hopper of Henderson.
