Vance-Granville Community College’s Franklin County Campus will be the site of a Mini Food Truck Rodeo on Tuesday, June 16, from 5 until 8 p.m.
Four food trucks based in the Raleigh area are scheduled to be featured: Virgil’s (Jamaican cuisine), Ladybug’s Treats (specializing in homemade desserts), CockADoodleMoo (chicken, barbecue and burgers) and Chick-n-Que (known for their chopped chicken barbeque and ostrich burgers).
The “rodeo” comes just days after VGCC wraps up a series of four workshops in a Mobile Food Truck Entrepreneurship program, also held at Franklin Campus. The program, the first of its kind to be offered in North Carolina, is a partnership of VGCC’s Small Business Center and Personal Enrichment department. Students who have completed the series will attend the rodeo as a way to cap off their training. They will have the opportunity to see food trucks in action and ask questions of the participating operators.
Queen Harris, co-owner/operator of Chick-n-Que, served as the instructor for the workshops. Harris and her husband have been operating a food truck for more than six years and recently also opened a restaurant. Through the VGCC series, Harris helped guide participants through the steps of planning, starting and maintaining a food truck or food cart business.
The college is preparing to offer the program a second time, in August.
The campus is located on N.C. 56, just west of Louisburg.
