Our Board of Commissioners held a Special Called Meeting this morning. A week ago the only purpose for the meeting was to hold a closed door discussion on a personnel matter. Yesterday approval of the Justice Assistance Grant was formally added to the agenda. This morning a last minute item was added to the agenda.
In about ten minutes the commissioners approved the Justice Assistance Grant and Rebuilding Hope’s request to waive construction and permit fees. This justice grant is federal funds (taxpayers’ money) returned to local law enforcement agencies. The city police departments and county sheriff’s department split the funds 60% – 40%. The city approved their portion of the grant during their regular meeting two weeks ago and the county approved their portion today. The county will receive $6,397.60. The commissioners swiftly approved waiving construction and permit fees for Rebuilding Hope. Neither the grant request nor Rebuilding Hope’s request were included in the agenda packet. Commissioner Brummitt said Rebuilding Hope’s request is the same as last year. Completing the two non-closed door agenda items the commissioners entered into a closed session for a personnel matter.
Observing the layout of the room one could assume the personnel matter exclude interviewing candidate(s) for the county manager job. Last week the commissioners conducted two interviews behind closed doors. Chairman Taylor said there would be no announcement following the conclusion of the closed door session. Maybe an announcement next week.
So Mikey….City of Henderson Council Member Brenda Peace doesn’t take care of her financial and fiscal responsibilities? The Church that she is a “pastor” of OWES BACK TAXES? Of course she should not be allowed to vote on ANY BUDGET proposals!! Even the weed smokers of Henderson would be able to figure that one out!
Mikey…..I see that your City Council didn’t vote for a tax increase but did as most cities/counties are doing by raising the sewer/water rates. It’s still going to cost more for citizens of Henderson and those on fixed incomes to live in your area during the next year b/c of these increases. I wonder why they pat themselves on the back for “not raising taxes” but don’t feel bad about raising sewer/water rates? Ever heard of “talking out of both sides of your mouth”? Gotta love an elected official who has the audacity to vote on raising the rates for other when they don’t even keep their own fiscal responsibilities in order!! When will you ever wake up and get these cronies out of office? I guess citizens in your area are so used to it they don’t even bother to worry about it. It’s sad b/c with so many people in your area on Fixed Incomes this latest “INCREASE” will only mean that more people will be at the Dept. of Social Services asking for assistance……thus the residual fallout of raising rates on essential daily living necessities……..Only N Hunnerson!!!
Oh…..I almost forgot…..how did Brenda Peace vote? Or did she do the honorable thing and not case a vote b/c her taxes haven’t been paid @ the Church she is the pastor of? I would bet my last piece of goat cheese that she voted for the increase as well as debated the issue. SMH!!!!!
