Michael Bobbitt: Notes From The Peanut Gallery (VC BoC June 19th, 2015)

Our Board of Commissioners held a Special Called Meeting this morning. A week ago the only purpose for the meeting was to hold a closed door discussion on a personnel matter. Yesterday approval of the Justice Assistance Grant was formally added to the agenda. This morning a last minute item was added to the agenda.

In about ten minutes the commissioners approved the Justice Assistance Grant and Rebuilding Hope’s request to waive construction and permit fees. This justice grant is federal funds (taxpayers’ money) returned to local law enforcement agencies. The city police departments and county sheriff’s department split the funds 60% – 40%. The city approved their portion of the grant during their regular meeting two weeks ago and the county approved their portion today. The county will receive $6,397.60. The commissioners swiftly approved waiving construction and permit fees for Rebuilding Hope. Neither the grant request nor Rebuilding Hope’s request were included in the agenda packet. Commissioner Brummitt said Rebuilding Hope’s request is the same as last year. Completing the two non-closed door agenda items the commissioners entered into a closed session for a personnel matter.

Observing the layout of the room one could assume the personnel matter exclude interviewing candidate(s) for the county manager job. Last week the commissioners conducted two interviews behind closed doors. Chairman Taylor said there would be no announcement following the conclusion of the closed door session. Maybe an announcement next week.
