Congresswoman Renee Ellmers: Giving Back to Our Veterans

Photo of the Week

After months of planning, it was wonderful to meet many of the employers and H.R. teams that attended our Fourth Annual Recruit-a-Vet Job Fair on Tuesday. We had 30 local employers on site to meet with veterans, answer questions, and assist in filling out paperwork. It was one of our most successful veterans fairs to date!

Weekly Update:
One of my favorite activities that I host each year is the Recruit-a-Vet Employment Fair. As the representative of Fort Bragg, it is imperative that members of our military have access to the best career opportunities. For this year’s job fair, we had 30 employers from surrounding areas who were on site for 3 hours to accept resumes and guide veterans through the application process.

This fair is just one small way we can give back to the community, encourage growth among local businesses and demonstrate our deep appreciation for those who have so nobly served. Click here to read more about the Job Fair or click here to view a brief video of Tuesday’s fair.

At the start of the week, I had the pleasure of touring Novartis in Holly Springs. I met with heads of CSL and Novartis to receive an update on the merger of their flu vaccine business and was lucky enough to get my flu shot while on site. In Congress we are working on the 21st Century Cures Initiative in an effort to expedite groundbreaking technologies, similar to the type of technology that emerges from Novartis. I hope you will scroll down to see photos of this visit.

Please know that my Asheboro, Dunn and Washington Offices are here to assist in you in whatever way we can. Do not hesitate to touch base with us!

Scenes from the Job Fair

This year’s fair was held at Fayetteville Technical Community College, and it was a huge success. We are fortunate to have so many quality businesses in the area who have a passion for serving veterans!

One of the industries looking to make hires is the in-home health industry. As a nurse, I have a sincere appreciation for those who dedicate their lives to providing quality healthcare for others.
Veterans Upward Bound is a program created to assist veterans in developing academic or other skills vital for success following their service in the military. It was great to have this group onsite to advise these men and women and explain the array of services they provide.

Cape Fear Valley Medical Center was one of the businesses on site Tuesday eager to speak with veterans about employment opportunities!

Have You Gotten Your Flu Shot?

I enjoyed a tour of Novartis in Holly Springs on Monday. While I was there I met with heads of CSL and Novartis and received an update on the merger of their flu vaccine business.

Novartis manufactures a flu vaccine called Flucelvax which uses cell-culture technology as opposed to the traditional egg-based manufacturing process. This is a more flexible process than the traditional egg-based approach and makes it possible to produce a higher quantity more efficiently.

After receiving my flu shot at Novartis, they made sure I got a sticker!
Have you gotten your flu shot yet?
