Vance-Granville Community College’s Student Government Association (SGA) has installed a group of officers to serve during the 2015-2016 year.
In September, elections for the top five offices were conducted online, giving all students a chance to participate. Students appointed to other offices included: Angelique Taylor of Macon (Human Services Technology/Substance Abuse), assistant secretary/treasurer; Micah Roberts of Stem (College Transfer), assistant public information officer; Andrew Boyle of Franklinton (Bioprocess Technology), the senate chair for VGCC’s Franklin Campus; Shane O’Malley of Inez (College Transfer/Warren Early College High School), senate chair for Main Campus and Warren Campus; Dianna DeWeese of Creedmoor (Accounting and Business Administration), senate chair for South Campus; Jessica Huffman of Durham (Paralegal Technology), senator for Franklin Campus; Emory Gant-Hawkins of Henderson (Culinary Arts), senator for Main Campus; Francis Scotland of Oxford (College Transfer), senator for Main Campus; Lydia Hendrick of Oxford (College Transfer/Granville Early College High School), senator for South Campus; and Samantha Huffman of Durham (College Transfer), senator for South Campus.
As SGA president, Perry is also the student trustee, representing the interests of her fellow students at all meetings of the VGCC Board of Trustees.
The Student Government Association is designed to promote the general welfare of the college in a democratic fashion and to facilitate communication among the student body, the faculty, and the administration. SGA also provides a means through which students can promote interest in student activities, both on and off campus.
