Ethridge to unveil job legislation in Raleigh today

Raleigh – U.S. Rep. Bob Etheridge (D-Lillington), the only North Carolina member on the House Ways and Means Committee, will officially unveil national legislation to give American businesses incentives to hire new employees as the American economy comes out of recession.

The bill, the HIRING Act, will create jobs by providing tax credits to reinvigorate our economy. Etheridge will announce the new legislation at a press conference with business and labor interests on Monday, January 11, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. in Raleigh.

Rep. Etheridge believes that further strengthening small businesses is a critical piece of the puzzle to address the economic downturn and push the American economy forward into prosperity. The HIRING Act provides a temporary tax credit for any business that creates a new job or expands its workforce. In addition to the new bill, which he will introduce in Congress this week, Etheridge has supported legislation to make sure credit is available for small businesses and supports continued investments in infrastructure and public services to create jobs. Etheridge plans to fight for these provisions to be included in the House’s national jobs legislation package.
