A Henderson City Council budget work session meeting is scheduled to be held at City Hall on Thursday night, May 13, 2010, at 6:00 p.m.
I urge all residents of Henderson and Vance County to attend this critical meeting because serious funding elements of the FY 2011 Budget will be discussed.
The council has instructed City Manager Ray Griffin to revise his proposed budget so that no tax increase and minimal utility rate increases will be required to balance the budget. It will be very interesting as well as important to all residents to hear the discussion between the council and the manager because line item(s) will be reduced and the anticipated impact noted.
As I have previously stated, my impression through last night is that the budget has not been reviewed from the perspective of what is necessary as a core function of the city and what is a “warm and fuzzy”. In order to fully understand the impact of budget cuts on you, personally, attending the meeting is of utmost importance.
I hope to see you there because I would hate to believe that ex-Mayor Robert G. “Chick” Young was correct when he stated “They don’t care, they really don’t care!”
