Peter White was sworn in today as Sheriff of Vance County in a ceremony at the Vance County Courthouse at 12:30 p.m. this afternoon.

The ceremony was presided over by Judge J. Henry Banks, who made welcoming remarks.

After the invocation by the Rev. Dr. Richard M. Henderson, Vance County Commissioner Terry Garrison recognized special guests.

Comments were made by Congressman G.K. Butterfield, Col. Richard W. Holden and Maj. Carnell Taylor, both retired from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Additional comments were made by the Rev. Dr. Roosevelt Allen. Although not included on the agenda, North Carolina Senator Doug Berger and Represenative Michael Wray were on hand to speak as well.

Judge Randolph Baskerville then swore in the new Sheriff, as well as his deputies and the detention officers.
