At last night’s town hall meeting hosted by Senator Berger and Representative Wray I gleamed this tidbit of information about our county. Vance County is a champion among Vance, Granville, and Franklin counties.
Combined District and Superior Court cases:
    Vance County: 5,164 (51.3%)
    Granville County: 3,619 (35.9%)
    Franklin County: 1,282 (12.7%)

    Superior Court cases
    Vance County: 872 (42.8%)
    Granville County: 624 (30.0%)
    Franklin County: 540 (26.5%)

Inquiring mines should want to know answers to these and more questions.
Why would our County be able to win such an honor over our larger and more populous neighboring counties? Are our Sherriff and Police Departments just that much better at apprehending the alleged bad guys and traffic violators? How can we grow this category of our County’s accomplishments? Could it be that our leading industry, Section 8 housing, gives us an advantage over our neighboring counties?

  2. Ellen Paynter May 13, 2011 at 7:54 am

WOW…I have no insight into your questions but I have to say those numbers are crazy compared to the other counties. The question that comes to my mind is how many of those cases are repeat offenders?

  3. prudence May 13, 2011 at 5:19 pm

Repeat offenders abound–cases are continued again and again. While these repeat offenders are out on bail they continue to commit crimes, the police apprehend lots of them in the act–and they are out on bail–.

Check out the doc offender lists for those that are listed as arrested –you’ll be appalled. All this and the prosecutor’s office is losing positions. Unbelievable. The three strikes and you’re out law in Virginia isn’t in NC.

  4. Betterworld May 13, 2011 at 5:29 pm

Thank you for that information Michael Bobbitt! Something needs to be done. Cases are continued and continued and continued and criminals continue to victimize us over and over and over.

  5. Dagny May 14, 2011 at 8:08 am

I was a court observer last year for about an hour and EVERY case was continued, it was a joke. The judges should take some blame here.

  6. Betterworld May 14, 2011 at 10:08 am

What bothers me also is that every time that happens, we lose more and more of our tax dollars in attorney fees. There really needs to be a ‘case rate.’

  7. Ellen Paynter May 14, 2011 at 10:46 am

Anyone know of anything fun (kid wise or something boys would enjoy) going on this weekend in Vance or neighboring counties? I am watching two young (6 and 9 year old) children this weekend and would like for them to have some fun beside just sitting around the house. It would have to be something inexpensive.

Thank you in advance for any ideas :o)

The best news I’ve heard all week! http://punditpress.blogspot.com/2011/05/video-student-attempting-to-burn-flag.html (if you watch the video — which I think you should — be warned there is bad language). Go LSU students! Go to _ell Hippie!!!!! GO USA!!!!!! It’s about time we take a stand against liberal ridiculousness!

  9. Jason Feingold May 14, 2011 at 5:03 pm

I watched the video. It looked to me like the counter-protesters used foul language, the threat of violence (“e.g. “kick his a–“), and intimidation by strength of numbers to silence a person or a group exercising their right to free speech. This isn’t the way to counter “liberal ridiculousness”. In fact, it plays into liberal ridiculousness by showing the other side to be violent, crude, and only able to shout slogans rather than articulate ideas.

(Personally, I think burning a flag is equally crude as a means of expression.)

I too say “Go USA!” Part of my “Go USA” cheer means that I support your right to speak — even if I would spend my life speaking against what you speak for. The exercise of freedom means putting up with the freedoms of others.

  10. Betterworld May 14, 2011 at 7:25 pm

I do not think they advocated violence, but they did say NO MORE. Liberals have dominated the media and conversatives (for the most part, albeit there are some radicals) have just turned and walked away, but the world has become out of control and so it is time for us to say no more. Sure, the guy had his freedom, but we have the freedom for our own exercise of the right to speak! It’s funny how only liberals have the right to demonstrate and when conservatives do it is considered crude.

Ellen, usually a ballgame or practice going on at Aycock. If the rain lets up tomorrow.

  12. ziggy May 15, 2011 at 12:25 am

    Betterworld, I’m with you.
did my heart good to see college students protesting a flag burning.
    it’s way past time.
For decades the Left has protested everything and anything American, and taught young people to hate their own country.
    GO LSU!

  13. Betterworld May 15, 2011 at 9:47 am

Thanks Ziggy and that’s exactly how I feel! Go LSU!

  14. ziggy May 16, 2011 at 4:24 pm

I mean, really…has anyone seen the protests of the Left?
    both past and present?
or see the messes they leave behind?
(you know…those folks who harp about a clean environment)

I won’t be wasting any time worrying about what THEY say.

let’s face it….Conservatives, The Tea Party, Palin, and others on the right have been called every name in the book, including ****’s…etc…
doesn’t matter how well behaved they are, the liberals and Left will find something to criticize, even if they have to infiltrate and make scenes and lie about it.

  15. Betterworld May 16, 2011 at 5:45 pm

    Absolutely right, Ziggy!
