On Saturday, March 3, 2007, at 1:21 a.m., officers of the Henderson Police Department responded to the 500 block of Hatch Street to investigate a report of shots fired in the area.
Upon arrival, officers found Michael O. Currin, 37, of 1014 Water Street lying in the street with a fatal gunshot wound to the head.
Officers also located a second victim at the scene who was suffering with an apparent gunshot wound to the face.
The second victim was transported to the Maria Parham Medical Center by ambulance and was later transferred to another medical facility. The victim’s identity is being withheld by police at this time as the incident remains under investigation.
Detective C.M. Wilkerson of the Henderson Police Department has obtained a warrant for the arrest of Antavian Cornelius “Bud” Yancey, 20, whose last known address was 825 John Street in Henderson. The warrant charges Yancey with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflicting serious injury upon the second victim.
Yancey is not in police custody as of press time and is considered armed and dangerous.
An additional warrant charging Yancey with murder is anticipated pending further investigation and preparation of the case.
Any persons seeing or coming into contact with Antavian Cornelius “Bud” Yancey should avoid approaching him and call 911 or their local law enforcement agency. Yancey is a black male, 20 years of age, with light to medium skin tone. He is five feet, nine inches tall and weighs approximately 200 pounds.
