If you’re looking for something outside of Henderson, may I suggest the Celebrate NC History Festival in downtown Raleigh at the NC Museum of History. This event celebrates the opening of a new large exhibit at the museum where there are life-size re-creations, such as an American Indian dwelling, an early 20th-century textile mill weaving room and a replica of the 1903 Wright flyer. Guests members can also participate through interactive maps and hands-on activities such as “milking” a replica of a cow and carrying buckets of water in a simulation of archaic farmhouse chores. The festival features storytellers, dance groups, live performances, craftspeople and other presenters who capture the flavor and diversity of the state to mark the opening of the museum’s exhibit, “The Story of North Carolina.” Wear a historical costume based on a character from North Carolina history and take part in a costume contest from 11am-12:45pm. www.ncmuseumofhistory.org
