Today’s vote in the local elections is much more important that most people know or believe.
I have worked in Henderson for over 30 years, still do, and also have a small business in Henderson. I’ve raised 3 daughters and have 4 grandchildren in our community. I’ve seen a lot.
And importantly for this election and especially our future, what I have seen over 30 years is a moderately successful community (city and county) go steadily downhill. Poorer, lower paying jobs, vastly more crime, unemployment, top 3 in drop-out, crime, teenage pregnancy … you name it.
But what hasn’t changed is the folks behind the curtain pulling the strings. Sure there are different elected officials, but too many of them dance to the tune of a few puppetiers. If you are honest with yourself you will know this truth. Something has to change if our children hope to succeed.
We must fix what is broken before it is too late. We cannot get new business and more and better jobs by continuing to do the same thing … by ignoring the blight that has settled over our neighborhoods and agencies. We have come to accept our situation, and we should be ashamed to have done so. You know what they say is true … “Only a fool would continue to do the same thing and expect different results.”
Without being unkind to the current leadership, whom I know and many of which I am friends with, I do urge each person to consider carefully: Have we as a community been well served by the policies of the last few decades? We know that the answer is a resounding NO. And if you can agree that change is needed and a new course set … then we must implement change and cast our votes:
FOR: JUANITA SOMERVILLE – Mayor of the City of Henderson
Let’s do the right thing … and blessings will begin to come our way. I believe that! I have hope!
Just got back from voting FOR Amendment 1. Glory to GOD in the highest!
