Do you support equal pay for women?
It’s been nearly 50 years since Congress passed the Equal Pay Act, but today a woman who works full time still earns just 77 cents for every dollar earned by a man.
That’s not just unfair. When women, who make up nearly half the workforce, bring home less money each day, it means they have less for the everyday needs of their families. That’s bad for kids, it’s bad for communities, and it’s bad for the entire country.
So President Obama is supporting the Paycheck Fairness Act, which is designed to update the Equal Pay Act of 1963 and help close the pay gap. Congress is scheduled to vote on the legislation this week.
To help raise awareness of pay discrimination and make it clear that it is a problem with serious consequences, we’ve put together a series of e-cards to highlight the issue.

If either a man or a woman can do the job, then yes, they should be paid equally. Why should there even be a split pay scale?
I say women should receive the same pay as men. Would you object if ‘minorities’ received lower wages than the majorities? In Vance County, Caucasions are the minority.
Let’s be specific though….IF the women does exactly the same job, same description, and duties..YES. But you can’t tell me that a lady doing a secretary job ($28k Yr.) is worth the same as an staff electrician making $45k yr. Sometimes we get too carried away comparing male to female and not apples to apples. A majority of Women tend to want professional jobs that are ‘safe’ and do not threaten their beauty icon status. Women now outnumber men in the professional line of work; didn’t used to be that way. If more women stepped up and became UPS Truck Drivers, Skilled Trade Workers, they would make the big dough. They would have to give up taking off from work to raise kids, pick up kids from school, take kids to doctor, taking kids to softball games, etc. This is also why women get less of a selection from men in real money jobs because serious industry employers want someone who can commit to a job and not have to take time away before it is finished.
I think we are talking job for job. If women do the same job as males then they should make the same if they do the same amount of work. This can be compared to a production job. If male or female do the same job with the same results then they are equal and should be payed the same. I have seen some pay scales pay different for male and female for the same job. That is just wrong.
