Congresswoman Renee Ellmers: I Want to Hear From You

As a freshman in the 112th Congress, I’ve voted to cut government spending, reduce the regulatory and tax burdens on America’s job creators, and have voted over 30 times to fully repeal, defund or dismantle parts of Obamacare.

Your thoughts and opinions are important to me and that’s why I’m sending you this survey about the issues that affect you and your family.  Please fill out this brief questionnaire to let me know your values and priorities and what you most want to see me working on in Congress.

The July jobs numbers released last week contained more bad news as unemployment rose to 8.3% and more Americans left the workforce.  This week, the House passed H.R. 8 – the Job Protection and Recession Prevention Act of 2012 – which will ensure that we will not raise taxes on our nation’s job creators and harm our recovery.   In this newsletter, you will find links to my statements on the new unemployment figures and passage of H.R. 8, as well as video from my speech on the floor of the House about the importance of this legislation to our farmers.

Preventing the impending tax hike is particularly important in today’s economy when businesses are already struggling. The Wall Street Journal reported a recent survey of small businesses that found seventy percent of the respondents said they plan to maintain their current employee levels, with only 21 percent saying they plan to hire one or more workers in coming months.

House Passes Job Protection and Recession Prevention Act of 2012

This week, the House passed H.R. 8 – the Job Protection and Recession Prevention Act of 2012 – which will ensure that we will not raise taxes on our nation’s job creators and harm our recovery.

In my district, thousands of farmers and their families wait in fear that their homes and businesses will be destroyed by the devastating tax increases on the horizon. If the Senate fails to act, farmers will be forced to lay off workers and be unable to pass along their accomplishments to the next generation.

As Steve Mitchell of Mitchell Farms in my district noted, ‘it will be very hard for our son to carry on, we have paid taxes all our lives and now they want to tax us when we die. With the value of farm equipment these days, it wouldn’t take long for a family farm to run up against the limit.”

Our farmers provide for our nation and deserve our gratitude and protection from unnecessary harm. We are here today because our economy and job creators continue to wait anxiously for real solutions to the economic crisis. H.R. 8 will ensure that our farmers and job creators are protected from further harm and can continue to create value for years to come.

Unemployment Rises to 8.3% As More Americans Leave the Workforce

I released the following statement today regarding the July jobs report released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics:

Americans are suffering with little relief in sight. Today’s unemployment report revealed that we have entered our 42nd month of continuous unemployment over 8 percent. People are giving up and things are only getting worse under President Obama’s watch as millions more Americans wait in the fear that they will be next. It’s clear that President Obama’s plan has not worked and his attacks on the free market and job creators of America are taking their toll.

This week, the House passed the Job Protection and Recession Prevention Act of 2012 – which will ensure that we will not raise taxes on our nation’s job creators and bring further harm our recovery. If President Obama and his Democratic colleagues in the Senate want to get serious about creating jobs and moving our economy ‘forward,’ they can start by reversing their destructive course and allow our over 30 bipartisan jobs bills to be voted on and signed into law.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported this morning that the national unemployment rate rose to 8.3 percent as 150,000 people dropped out of the labor force altogether. The figures confirm what previous reports detailed- that the number of Americans exiting the workforce has exploded over the last year, with 12.8 million unemployed.
