Henderson doesn’t need a downtown gallery to produce a big crowd for an art show. It’s just a matter of picking the right artists.
Monday night, Vance County Schools’ Administrative Services Center became the Louvre on Graham Avenue as parents, siblings, grandparents and others turned out to see the masterpieces of 60 student artists, ranging in age from pre-kindergarten to 12th grade.
Framed works representing almost any style you could hope to see lined the hallways of the former Harriet & Henderson Yarns headquarters. It took a good 10 minutes to see all the artwork — not only because so many pictures were on display, but because so many people crowded the halls to tour the sights and take photos of their young artists’ works.
“This is the biggest turnout we’ve had of parents at this building,” Superintendent Norm Shearin said at the conclusion of a ceremony at which he presented certificates to the two-thirds or so of the student artists who made it to the show.
In the Board of Education’s meeting room, people lined the walls and crowded into the entranceways after the 90 seats for the public filled up.
Shearin said the point was not so much to pack the cavernous office building but to help transform a sterile corporate headquarters into “a children’s building.”
He credited two central office staffers, Jane Fleming and Wanda Bullock, with developing the idea of displaying student artwork along the corridors of school administrative power. Shearin said he told them, “If you’ll do the work, I’ll pay for the frames.”
He said the building now has 50 frames for student art, with 20 more on the way. He said the pictures will remain for about two months, then he hopes to persuade Fleming and Bullock to do it all again.accounts loan collateral receivable asadvanced payment loanshome loans doc 1 no$50000 loanloan instant payday advance onlineline loan payday advance cashloan cash overnight about online advanceloans home illinois 100 financingclosing loans percent 0 cost homehr payday 1 loan
