The summer months are always packed full of highway safety campaigns due to the increased motorists on our roads.. The Governor’s Highway Safety Program had an exciting opportunity for law enforcement agencies to work toward eliminating impaired driving.

The Governor’s Highway Safety Program chose the date of Friday, August 8, 2008 to send a message to North Carolina motorists that drinking and driving will not be tolerated in our state. A way to send this message is that August 8, 2008 (as written ..08.08.08) correlates with the state’s blood-alcohol DWI limit of .08. The Governor’s Highway Safety Program would like to seize this opportunity and blanket the state with a night of checkpoints across the state.
