On December 4th 2012, the Chief of Police and members of the Henderson Police Department met with Kanika Turrentine of Infinite Possibilities. She presented the program “Wild About Reading” that is intended to promote literacy at L.B. Yancey Elementary School. The members of the Henderson Police Department graciously agreed to participate and arranged a schedule that has allowed every sworn member of the Henderson Police Department to read to or with the children of L.B. Yancey every Wednesday morning.
This program has been exceedingly rewarding for both the children and the officers. Some of the officers have received posters of appreciation from the classes and now display them in their work areas. The program kicked off on January 9th 2013 and will carry on until May 8th 2013 with hopes of continuing the connection in years to come.
