The first woman to serve in Congress took her seat on this date in 1917. Jeannette Rankin of Montana shortly became one of the few representatives to vote against entry into World War I, a stand that contributed to her defeat when she ran for the Senate in 1918. She reentered Congress in 1940, and putting her principles ahead of office holding, cast the lone vote against declaring war on Japan after Pearl Harbor in 1941. Her political career, which began before women gained the right to vote, ended with her term. Nearly 64 percent of female citizens over 18 voted in the 2012 election, and nearly 73 percent report being registered to vote. I was looking over one sample of the Republican primary ballots for Harris County, home of Houston. There are different Republican primary ballot for congress persons, county commissioners, and others. This is the link to a Republican sample ballot for just one political precinct. http://www.harrisvotes.com/SampleBallot/VoterBallot/E/R0206.pdf
Do you think SECEDE Kilgore has a real possibility of being elected Governor of Texas. (Yes, he is a real person with the middle name Secede.)
There are eight (8) Republicans running for US Senate, how many run-offs will be needed?
Is that another Bush is trying to get elected to office as Commissioner of General Land Office?
Unless you work in the court system or are a frequent attendee to court how many of the judges listed do you think you would know?
I especially like that the Harris County republicans were unable to agree on one person to head their party so there are three to choose from.
Kind of fun to see how democracy looks in other parts of the country.
