Early America certainly was a simpler society than that which we have today, but some of today’s familiar institutions were part of the national experience over 200 years ago. On this date in 1795, the city of Baltimore set up a permanent, elected board of health, successor to the nation’s first such appointed agency. The first board was created by Maryland’s governor to cope with yellow fever epidemics beginning in 1792. At one point, the city of Baltimore quarantined or turned away travelers fleeing hard-hit Philadelphia. Board of health or no, Baltimore was affected in 1794 and hundreds died as a result. Local governments across the country employ nearly 225,000 full-time and 53,000 part-time workers in health services, exclusive of hospital staffs. Profile America is in its17th year as a public service of the U.S. Census Bureau.

I see in the news that City is working with County to move recreation program to County oversight and a ratio of funding more favorable to City residents.Yes! Now if the City can reduce contributions to that over time and let that be a County(wide) funded program. A move in the right direction.
Maybe that should say, a move in the New Direction! lol
Should have been done long ago. Does anyone how much money is still owed on Fox Pond Aycock recreation area?
two more years/payments of ?
Do you know how much $$$ is spent to operate the pool at Aycock Rec. Center? Chech the figures and you will be surprised. Check the salary of the “aquatics manager” and you will probably go into cardiac arrest. It’s amazing that in a county such as Vance that you can have a person hold the title of “aquatics manager” and make the $$$ that she makes. Only N Hunnerson!
well tell us, how much is it?
mingo, the answer to your first question is found on page 100 of Vance County’s 2013 – 2014 Proposed Budget. For account number 20-660-500593 Aycock Recreational Comp(lex) the annual amount debt service is $153,777. The budget summary does not indicate principle and interest proportions. Combined the County’s and the City’s next two payments will equal $615,108.
For your second question I relied on Council Member Inscoe’s comments during the April 14th Council meeting. Mr. Inscoe stated the full operating expenditures for all of parks and recreation is $1,239,600 in the 2013 – 2014 fiscal year. The County’s proposed budget does not include sufficient details to calculate the salary of the aquatics manager. Maybe Deception would share some facts instead of his steady stream of innuendo.
How many City Council members and County Commissioners attended the Coal Ash Cleanup Meeting? I heard on one City Council Member attended.
