Public Works Director Linda Leyen told members of the Henderson City Council that a community waste reduction grant, if awarded, will be used for public education.
New rules are going into effect regarding what may or may not be placed in a public landfill.
The grant, which could potentially award $40,000, will be used to educate the public about the new rules and the advantages of recycling.
Assistant City Manager Frank Frazier told council member that the city wants to accelerate recycling, but that it also needs to be prepared to pick up recycling.
City Manager Ray Griffin told the council that a discussion about methods for providing services for recycling and the changes in service will be a discussion item during the March council retreat. He said that it would also be a major part of the budgetary review.
